Barry Andrews is a Member of the European Parliament, representing Dublin since 2019. A member of the Fianna Fáil party in Ireland who is part of Renew Europe, they are under the ALDE Party umbrella in Europe.
Minister for Children (2008-2011)
Before being elected as an MEP in 2019, Barry was Minister for Children in the Irish Government from 2008-2011 and was a TD (Member of Parliament) from 2002-2011.
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (1999-2002)
From 1999-2002, he was a Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council member in Co. Dublin.
Work History
A teacher by profession, Barry’s professional experience includes serving as CEO of GOAL, a global humanitarian response agency, and Director General of the Institute of International & European Affairs.
Work Within The European Parliament
Barry’s work in the European Parliament since 2019 includes membership of a number of high-profile committees, including:
· Committee on International Development
· Committee on International Trade
· Founding member of the Belfast-Brussels forum, comprising MEPs and members of the Northern Ireland Assembly
· Co-lead negotiator of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD)
· Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality
In 2020, Barry set up the European Parliament’s Sustainable Development Goal Alliance (SDG Alliance) to highlight sustainable development in the European Parliament. There are 28 MEPs from 12 different countries in the group, from across the political spectrum. The SDGs are the only globally agreed roadmap for achieving our goals on climate and biodiversity while ensuring that this is done in a fair and just way for all people in all countries.
