Foreign Affairs
Barry has dedicated much of his parliamentary work to shaping Irish and European foreign policy, which should be grounded in the values of humanity, peace, human rights, justice, the rule of law, equality and tackling climate change. At the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war, Barry vocally criticised the mixed EU response, insisting that all sides must respect international law and that humanitarian access would be paramount. Other work includes his efforts to support humanitarian demining in Ukraine, which is essential to prevent further deaths and facilitate Ukraine’s recovery. Barry’s dedication to human rights at home and abroad is evidenced by his work on tackling human rights abuses in fast fashion, supermarket supply chains and mining across the globe. He has also worked to ensure Irish and multinational corporations play a much bigger role in the fight against climate change.
