Dear President Metsola,
Please find attached a letter, co-signed by several Members of the European Parliament against the backdrop of the on-going 6th EU-UK Parliamentary Partnership Assembly, concerning the offering of observer status in the European Parliament to Northern Ireland political representatives.
Northern Ireland holds an entirely unique position with the EU's constitutional architecture:
Its people are entitled to European citizenship and passports.
It continues to participate in the EU Single Market for goods.
It retains an automatic pathway to EU membership in the event of Irish reunification.
Offering observer status would recognise Northern Ireland's distinctive relationship with the Union, enhance democratic legitimacy, and reaffirm the EU's enduring commitment to peace and inclusion under the Good Friday Agreement. In this regard, it would be fair and proportionate for the European Parliament to proactively indicate its willingness to respond positively to any future request by the UK Government.
I am available to meet and discuss at your convenience.

Kind regards,
Barry Andrews MEP
